5 Dice five dice, three rolls

The rules of the game

In brief

  • 13 turns; each turn, you roll 5 dice up to 3 times, keeping the ones you want.
  • After rolling, the points go into an open box on the score sheet; each box can be used only once.
  • A 35-point bonus if the upper section reaches 63; 100 more for each Penta after the first.

Taking a turn

You roll the 5 dice. You can then keep some dice by tapping them and reroll the others; then do it once more. At most 3 rolls per turn. You don't have to use all of them: from the first roll on, you can choose a box and tap "Confirm turn".

In the app, if you don't choose anything after the last roll, the app enters the result itself after 3 seconds, in the box the computer would choose.

The upper bonus

If the 6 upper boxes add up to at least 63 points, the sheet gains 35 points. 63 corresponds to three dice of each value: three aces, three twos, and so on up to three sixes.

Sacrificing a box

Any open box can receive the roll, even if it scores nothing there: you enter zero and the box is lost. With 1, 1, 3, 4 and 6, only a few boxes score; a Full House or a Large Straight would give 0. The app points this out: "No open box scores: you must sacrifice one" when that is the case.

The Penta and its bonus

Five identical dice make a Penta: 50 points in the Penta box. If that box already holds 50 points, each new Penta earns 100 bonus points, in addition to the box where you enter it. A Penta entered as zero (sacrificed box) no longer gives a bonus.

The joker

When a new Penta comes up and the Penta box holds 50 points:

  • if the upper box for that value is open, it is mandatory. With five 4s, only the Fours box is allowed: 20 points, plus 100 bonus;
  • otherwise, an open lower box: Three of a Kind, Four of a Kind, Full House, Small Straight, Large Straight and Chance. The Full House is then worth 25, the Small Straight 30, the Large Straight 40; the other boxes count the sum (20);
  • if the whole lower section is filled, another open upper box, where the roll is worth zero: here Aces, 0 points, the 100 bonus still being earned.

If the Penta box was sacrificed at zero, none of this applies: the Penta is played as an ordinary roll, with no bonus, and the Large Straight would be worth 0.

End of the game

The game ends when each player has played their 13 turns. The total (TOTAL) adds up the upper section, its bonus, the lower section and the Penta bonuses; the highest total wins.
